FAQ
What happens when the total does not divide evenly?
The remainder is shared one smallest unit (1 cent, 1 yen …) at a time, starting with the first person, so some people pay one unit more. All shares always add up exactly to the bill plus tip.
What does rounding up each share do?
Everyone pays the same rounded-up amount, so you may collect more than the bill plus tip. The calculator shows the extra and the effective tip percentage including it.
How much should I tip?
Tipping customs differ widely between countries, regions and venues, and this tool does not decide for you. Check the venue or reliable local information, then enter the percentage you choose.
