Appliance Electricity Cost Calculator (kWh and cost)

Estimate the energy use (kWh) and electricity cost of an appliance from its wattage, hours of use per day, number of days and your price per kWh.

  • Runs in your browser (no upload)

Enter the wattage (W) shown in the specifications or on the label of the appliance.

Enter 0.25 for 15 minutes or 0.5 for 30 minutes (up to 24 hours).

Enter the price per kWh from your bill or your supplier’s tariff. The starting value is only an example.

How to use

  1. Enter the appliance wattage (W), found in its specifications or on its label.
  2. Enter how many hours a day you use it and for how many days.
  3. Enter your electricity price per kWh to see the energy and estimated cost per hour, per day and for the whole period.

FAQ

What is a kWh?

A kilowatt-hour is a unit of energy: a 1,000 W appliance running for one hour uses 1 kWh. Energy (kWh) = power (W) × hours ÷ 1,000.

Where do I find my price per kWh?

It is on your electricity bill or in your supplier’s tariff. If the price depends on how much you use, enter the rate that applies to most of your usage for a rough estimate.

Can I estimate standby power?

Yes. Enter the standby wattage and the number of hours the appliance spends in standby.

Notes & limitations

  • What you enter is processed only on this page and is not sent to YUCTS servers.
  • Results are estimates. Fixed charges, fuel adjustments, other fees beyond the unit price and tariffs that change with usage or time of day are not modeled.
  • Actual power draw changes with how the appliance runs (thermostat settings, door openings and so on), so real usage may differ from the rated wattage.
  • No electricity prices are built in; the calculation uses the unit price you enter.
