How to use
- Type or paste the names, one per line. Tick the checkbox to remove duplicate names.
- Choose whether to set the number of groups or the people per group, and enter the number.
- Press Make groups to see the result. Shuffle again as often as you like, then copy the groups or download them as CSV.
FAQ
Is it really random?
Names are shuffled with the browser’s cryptographically secure random numbers (crypto.getRandomValues) and an unbiased Fisher–Yates shuffle, then split in order. Every possible grouping is equally likely.
What if the names do not divide evenly?
Group sizes differ by at most one: 10 names in 3 groups gives 4, 3 and 3. When you set the people per group, the tool uses just enough groups that none is larger than that size.
Are the names sent anywhere?
No. Everything happens on this page; names are never sent to a server and are not saved.
Notes & limitations
- What you enter is processed only on this page and is not sent to YUCTS servers.
- Constraints such as gender balance or keeping certain people apart are not supported.
- Duplicate removal only treats exactly identical names as duplicates (extra spaces are ignored). Turn it off if two different people share the same name.
- Up to 2,000 names of up to 100 characters each. Names are not saved.
