The estimate solves numerically (bisection) for the monthly rate i at which receiving the principal minus the one-time fee and making the monthly payments balance out, then shows i × 12 and (1 + i)^12 − 1. Only this step uses floating point; it is rounded to 2 decimal places for display. Legal APR disclosure rules may define it differently.

One payment at the end of every month. The one-time fee is paid once when the plan starts; the per-installment fee is added to every payment.

Each installment is rounded to the smallest unit; the final installment absorbs the rounding differences.

FAQ

Why is the APR above 0% when the interest rate is 0%?

With fees you pay back more than you actually receive (the principal minus the one-time fee). Expressed as a yearly rate, that cost is greater than 0%.

What is the difference between a flat rate and a rate on the balance?

A flat rate keeps charging interest on the original amount even as you repay it, so the true cost is higher than the number suggests (1% per month for 12 months is an APR of about 21.5%). A rate on the balance only charges interest on what you still owe.

How is the APR estimated?

It solves numerically (bisection) for the monthly rate i at which the amount received and the monthly payments balance, then shows i × 12 and the compounded (1 + i)^12 − 1. Only this step uses floating point, rounded to 2 decimal places.

Notes & limitations

  • What you enter is processed only on this page and is not sent to YUCTS servers.
  • Assumes one payment every month. Daily interest, extra or balloon payments, early repayment and late fees are not handled.
  • The one-time fee is assumed to be paid once when the plan starts (for the APR it reduces the amount you receive), and the per-installment fee is added to every payment. If your agreement handles fees differently, enter them to match it.
  • The APR is an estimate; legal disclosure rules may calculate it differently. Your agreement is authoritative.
  • Amounts are rounded to the smallest unit and the final installment absorbs the difference; lenders may round differently.
