These are average values for each ingredient. The same cup of a different ingredient weighs very differently, and the same ingredient changes with sifting, packing and scooping. Do not reuse another ingredient’s value, and use a kitchen scale when precision matters.

FAQ

Can I use the same value for another ingredient?

No. Every ingredient has its own density, so one cup of each weighs very differently. Convert unlisted ingredients with their own data.

Is a US cup the same as a Japanese cup?

No. A US cup is about 236.6 ml, a Japanese measuring cup is 200 ml, and the metric cup used in Australia and elsewhere is 250 ml. Check which cup your recipe means.

Where do the values come from?

From USDA FoodData Central (SR Legacy), such as “1 cup = 125 g”. The tool shows each ingredient’s FDC ID and the original description.

Notes & limitations

  • What you enter is processed only on this page and is not sent to YUCTS servers.
  • Values are USDA averages. Actual weight varies with brand, grind, moisture and how you measure (sifting, packing, scooping).
  • USDA SR Legacy was released in its final version in April 2018 and is no longer updated (checked 2026-11-06).
  • The 20 ml Australian tablespoon is not included because we could not confirm it with an official source.
  • Use a kitchen scale for recipes where precision matters.
