How to use

  1. Choose a region or operator, or search by line name, line code or HEX value.
  2. Copy the HEX code on a card and check its contrast ratio and WCAG level with white and black text.
  3. Save the lines shown as CSV if needed. Check the source before using a “Reference” colour.

FAQ

What is the difference between “Official” and “Reference”?

“Official” colour codes are published by the operator as open data (Toei Subway). For “Reference” values the operator publishes no colour code, so we recorded the colour its official website uses in line icons or stylesheets.

Why does a station sign look slightly different?

Colours made for screens are not always identical to the paint or ink used on signs, trains and printed maps. Ask the operator if you need an exact colour specification.

How is the contrast ratio calculated?

With the WCAG 2.x relative luminance formula; the ratio is truncated to two decimals. 4.5:1 or more passes AA, 7:1 or more passes AAA, and 3:1 or more passes AA for large text only.

May I use the line colours in my designs?

The colour values are facts, but line symbols and logos belong to each operator. Avoid uses that could be mistaken for official signage, and check the operator’s rules if needed.

Notes & limitations

  • What you enter is processed only on this page and is not sent to YUCTS servers.
  • The tool lists 40 entries from three Taiwanese and three Japanese operators (checked 2026-11-06). New lines or colour changes may not be reflected.
  • Only the Toei Subway colours are official open data (CC BY 4.0, Bureau of Transportation, Tokyo Metropolitan Government / Association for Open Data of Public Transportation). The others are reference values taken from the operators’ websites and may differ from their formal colours.
  • JR East colours were read from the Internet Archive copy of the same files because the JR East website could not be reached directly.
  • How a colour looks on screen depends on the display and its colour settings.
